Brazil is bordered on the north by Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and the French overseas region of French Guiana; on the northwest by Colombia; on the west by Bolivia and Peru; on the southwest by Argentina and Paraguay and on the south by Uruguay as its shown in the map of Brazil and surrounding countries. Numerous archipelagos form part of Brazilian territory, such as Fernando de Noronha, Rocas Atoll, Saint Peter and Paul Rocks, and Trindade and Martim Vaz. It borders all other South American countries except Ecuador and Chile.
Brazil, with over 200 million inhabitants, is the largest country in Latin America. Chile and Ecuador aside, it borders every country in the continent. It ranks fifth worldwide when it comes to population and territorial dimensions as its mentioned in the map of Brazil and surrounding countries. The intention of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is to give an overview of Brazil relations with its neighbours. Every two weeks, the “Brazil and its neighbours” series will publish scientific analyses in Portuguese by select authors about Brazil relations with its Spanish-speaking neighbours.
